The WeTheNorth buyer's guide
New to WeTheNorth — or to darknet markets in general? This guide takes you from zero to a first successful order. Follow the steps in order and don't skip the security parts.
Step 1 — Get to the market
Install the Tor Browser from torproject.org, open it and press Connect. Then load WeTheNorth through its canonical onion address:
http://hn2paw7zaahbikbejiv6h22zwtijlam65y2c77xj2ypbilm2xs4bnbid.onionNo Tor handy right now? The mirrors wtnmarket.ru and wtnmarket.net open in any browser for browsing. Bookmark whichever door you use — and be suspicious of any WeTheNorth link that comes from a chat message or forum comment instead of a bookmark you made yourself.
Step 2 — Register and lock down your account
Registration asks for a username, a strong passphrase and nothing else — no email is required. The moment your account exists:
- Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) from the security settings.
- Add a PGP key if you use one — it lets the market verify important messages to you.
- Save your recovery mnemonic somewhere offline, not in a cloud note.
Step 3 — Deposit crypto
WeTheNorth takes Bitcoin and Monero, with everything priced in CAD. Open your wallet page, generate a deposit address, and send a small test amount first. Wait for full confirmation before sending more or generating another address — the market is explicit about this. Details and fee expectations are on our payments page.
Step 4 — Pick a vendor like a Canadian
Sort the category you care about by feedback score and order count, not by price. Read the most recent reviews — a vendor who was great in 2023 and went quiet in 2026 is not the same bet. Cross-check big purchases against threads on the WeTheNorth forum, where the community keeps longer memories than a vendor page does.
Step 5 — Order through escrow and track it
Add to cart, check out, and let the market's escrow hold the funds. The vendor marks the order shipped — usually with a Canada Post tracking number for domestic letters and parcels. Typical Canadian delivery is a few days to a week. When the package arrives and the product checks out, finalize the order to release escrow. If nothing arrives by the timer's end, open a dispute instead of finalizing.
Step 6 — Leave feedback
Your review is the marketplace's immune system. Honest feedback — good or bad — is what keeps vendor pages trustworthy for the next buyer, and it takes ten seconds.
Mistakes that cost Canadians money
- Ordering without escrow. If a vendor asks you to finalize early or pay outside the market, you have abandoned your only protection. Market rules let vendors be banned for it.
- Depositing everything at once. Keep your market balance small; top up when needed.
- Trusting pasted links. Phishing pages harvest passphrases and drain balances. Use your bookmarks.
- Skipping 2FA. A stolen passphrase alone should never be enough to empty your account.
